At Landhai we are dedicated to providing outstanding canine services in North Wales. Based on our private 3 acre site just outside Wrexham, we provide care, training and behavioural services to dog owners and their canine charges. We also host a dog sport club covering multiple disciplines:
- Working Trials based on the Kennel Club standards
- IGP (Internationale Gebrauchshund Pruefung) previously known as IPO or Schutzhund
- GRC (Gameness, relationship & control)
Landhai is the labour of love of founder Ian Warren, BSc (Hons). Ian, like many trainers, grew up with family dogs and started out training his own dogs and fuelling a passion which saw him return to education and study Canine Behaviour and Training at Hull University. Ian then formed the current training centre, including two fully fenced training paddocks, a indoor training room and small woodland area. Plans are afoot to continue extending the facilities adding an environmental training area and stock proofing training.
Ian currently lives with two dogs:
Lindt is a big Dutch Herder x German Shepherd male who has trained in a number of diciplines and is currently learning to identify different matching items .. think playing snap but with random items instead of cards!
Luna is a small female German Shepherd, who is training for IGP competition. Her official name is ‘Irrer Landhai’ or ‘Crazy Land Shark’.
If you speak to Ian he will tell you that he started Landhai, first and foremost, because he loves working with dogs and helping people get the most out of their relationship with their 4 legged friend. He explains “I believe that as much as possible our interaction with dogs should be positive for both dog and owner, but we also have a duty to prepare a dog for the real world where sometimes strange things happen. Training a dog to have a strong but responisble character is the most valuable thing we can do to help them survive in our world, and occasionally this means doing something a dog doesn’t like. For that reason I consider our approach to be inline with LIMA (least intrusive, minimally aversive.) Unfortunately the extreme approaches of some is neither fair nor effective in helping the dog live its best life.”
